Top 3 Fall Home Maintenance Jobs

Fall is here and we are all looking forward to warm and cozy days in our homes, making soups, stews and enjoying all the holiday comforts with our loved ones. Although not always top of mind, these 3 relatively easy home maintenance jobs are vital to ensuring that you get the most out of your home this season and also keeps your home in top-shape for years to come.

1) Clean your gutters:

Gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year – in the spring and in the fall.

If leaf debris builds up in them, it could lead to sagging gutters, mold growth, wet basements, a leaky roof or water damage to the interior or exterior of your home and can also make homes for rodents and other pests. There are many tools available on the market to help you make the cleaning job easier and hiring someone to clean your gutters is an option if you aren’t comfortable on a ladder. Early fall is a great time to tackle this project before it gets too wet and slippery outside.

2) Check weatherstripping, replace bulbs with LED ones:

Prevent energy-wasting leaks around entry doors, garage doors and old windows by checking your seals and making sure that cold drafts aren’t coming in. LED lightbulbs are more energy efficient than regular lightbulbs and can even add more brightness to different areas of your home, which will help tremendously as we enter into the months with shorter daylight hours.

3) Give your fireplace/furnace a tune-up:

Your furnace or fireplace heats your home. It is literally the heart and warmth during those cold winter months, allowing you and your loved ones to be comfortable and cozy. Consistent servicing of your furnace or fireplace ensures that it will last for a long time.
